A Note About Our Ferrets
All ferrets coming into the shelter are tested for exposure to the Aleutian's Disease Virus (ADV). Vaccinations are updated and if the ferret is ill, it will be seen by a vet. All ferrets have a 2-week acclimation period before they can be adopted out, since many ferrets will fall ill within that 2-week period due to stress.

Ferrets are also checked and treated for any medical conditions, flea treated and observed for behavioral problems.

 Submit ADV Test
If you have other ferrets, the best way to pick a friend for them is to let them do the picking. Since all ferrets in the shelter have been tested and are ADV negative, your other ferrets need to be ADV negative, too. If you've already had your ferrets tested (the United Vaccine blood test isthe only one I consider truly accurate), documentation within one year willbe accepted.

If you haven't had your ferrets tested, I would be happy to help you withthat, since I have all the supplies necessary. Or, you could order the supplies from United directly, or have it done at your vet's office. If you do it yourself, test is $10.50 and each one after that is $8.50, plus shipping. I'll be happy to discuss this with you if you have questions.

After the ADV tests come back negative, then you can bring your ferrets to the shelter and see who they get along with.

 Meet Your Ferret
Now you (or your other ferrets) can see which shelter ferret has the right personality for you.
Please keep these these points in mind:
  Do you have children?
  Do you have other ferrets?
  Have you considered costs?

Take Your New Ferret to it's New Home!
Finally, it's yours. Allow it to get acquatinted with it's new surroundings, pets, children and you. If you find that it just isn't compatible with any of these, please contact us. We will try our best to find a compatible ferret for you.
